What then.

I couldn’t not respond to this, because it is a fantastic question.

I think one of the most frustrating things is being told how to BE, but not how to BECOME.

Be confident! Love yourself! Just…

Michelle gives awesome advice. I just want to add to take ownership of the things you know. I tried to fake confidence for a long time because I didn’t really have it, and I didn’t know what else to do. But there were a few times when I basically did what Michelle says to do. I had little victories, and I let them build me up. Then, I continued to build off of them I found the things I’m good at, and I took ownership of them. And people began to notice.

I was a swimmer for most of my life, and I really fell in love with it when I began teaching swim lessons and helping coach. I knew what I was doing, and I was helping people. A mother on the team (who constantly undermined me in my other job as pool manager, I was not a fan of hers) came up to me at one point and said “You’re different this summer…you’re confident. It’s nice.” I was kind of shocked, but it was another confidence boost. (I may or may not have strutted around the pool all day.

I also found that feeling in theatre. Backstage, or onstage, it’s the only other place where I’m confident because I know what I’m doing, and that leads into my daily life. (I’ve got a whole other post coming about that.)

Basically it has been finding those things I am good at, where I know what I’m doing, that build my own shaky confidence and when I take ownership of it, that confidence tends to stay. 

I love Michelle’s posts because they’re so true, and positive, and very helpful. I just wanted to add my own experience with finding confidence to hers, because her post made me look back at my own journey.
